Rights of admission

During the visit to El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria it is obligatory to observe the rules established herein, approved by the Board of Directors of the Institute of Culture of Barcelona, on 22 September 2020.

Accessing El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria installations implies acceptance of these rules.

People are entitled to be admitted to establishments open to the public under the same objective terms and conditions for all, if capacity permits and none of the general access limitations arise, such as for safety reasons, or to avoid public order disturbances.

  • Scope of application

    These rules will be applicable to everyone who accesses El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria:

    1. Visitors to the Centre.
    2. All people or groups authorised to use certain areas in the Centre for meetings, receptions, conferences, concerts, shows or diverse activities.
    3. Anyone from outside the Centre, present in the establishment, although for professional reasons.

    To ensure the correct functioning of El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, coexistence, respect and civic responsibility, and to protect the heritage preserved inside the complex, the Board of Directors of the Institute of Culture of Barcelona, in accordance with current general legislation and with the municipal laws of Barcelona City Council, has established a series of basic rules that must be borne in mind during the visit.

    Terms and conditions of the visit

    • Access to the Centre entails full acceptance of the rules of the facilities.
    • Access to the Centre is free, but access to the Centre exhibition rooms requires an entrance ticket, which must be shown to access control personnel.
    • The entrance ticket is non-transferrable.
    • The occasional closure of any room or part of the Centre for maintenance reasons or needs of the service, will be duly notified to visitors and will not imply discounts or refunds of the entrance ticket amount.
    • The entrance ticket prices, as well as the conditions for exemptions or discounts, are established by the Institute of Culture and Barcelona City Council and are displayed in a visible place in the public entrance area and the website of the Centre.
    • The beneficiaries of discounts and exemptions to the entrance price must show the corresponding valid and authorised official accreditation at the ticket office. Otherwise, the full price will be paid.
    • The Centre will give preferential entrance to people with reduced mobility and their companions, in the access lines to the facilities.
    • Entrance to the exhibition rooms in the Centre is valid for the whole day of its purchase and, if appropriate, other days that the Centre determine.
    • Access to unaccompanied children under 11 will not be permitted. Children between 11 and 14 years old may access with the authorisation of their mother/father or legal guardian accompanied by a photocopy of the identity document.
    • Entrance tickets can be bought up to 30 minutes before the closure of the Centre.
    • Visitors must behave correctly during the visit, avoiding causing a nuisance to other visitors, and must always comply with instructions from Centre personnel.
    • Running and shouting in the rooms is forbidden to avoid accidents and not to cause a nuisance to other visitors.
    • To protect and preserve the heritage, it is not permitted to touch the objects on display, except those objects displayed for this purpose, and the indicated safety distance will be maintained.
    • Access to the Centre is not permitted with any kind of wheeled mobility system, such as bicycles, scooters, roller skates or any other electric transport (which must be left in the lockers), unless necessary for people with reduced mobility.
    • In the event of evacuation, follow the instructions of Centre personnel.
    • The building has a defibrillator. If needed, see the information personnel.
    • Mobile telephones and any other device that emits sounds must be silenced, and voices must be kept down.
    • Visitors cannot access the Centre nude or partially nude. If there is doubt, article 74 bis of the Municipal Ordinance of Coexistence will be taken into consideration.

    • The Centre has video surveillance, and for this reason the visitor must be always identifiable.
    • Footwear must be worn in the Centre.
    • Animals cannot enter the Centre, except for guide dogs and assistance dogs.
    • Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the Centre (tobacco or other electronic systems).
    • It is not permitted to sit on the floor, obstructing the path, unless due to specific dynamics led by Centre personnel.
    • Only non-flash photography is permitted in the exhibition areas. The use of tripods or professional equipment must be expressly authorised.
    • Unauthorised advertising, promotional or commercial activity is not permitted.
    • Political or religious demonstrations of any kind are not permitted.

    Unauthorised materials and products:

    • Weapons of any kind, including those for personal defence.
    • Accessories for filming or taking photographs, selfie sticks, photographic camera stabilisers, tripods, or any kind of professional equipment.
    • Umbrellas, except those that can be folded away and put in a handbag, balls and torches.
    • Glass bottles.
    • Laser projectors.
    • Any object or material that will cause alarm and/or that security personnel consider may be a risk to works or people.
    • Rucksacks, suitcases, bags and parcels over 40×40 cm.
    • Baby carriers worn on the back.
    • Foldable chairs or walking sticks with seat, unless used by the elderly or people with reduced mobility.
    • Food and drink of any kind is not permitted in the Centre except for water for personal consumption outside the exhibition areas.

    The customer service personnel have information on the services and spaces in the Centre, so it is recommended to refer to said personnel for any queries, as well as any suggestions deemed relevant.

    Consulting the Centre website is recommended (www.elbornculturaimemoria.barcelona.cat) before visiting to confirm opening hours, exhibitions, holiday times, special scheduling, etc.

    • Access to the exhibition halls requires an entrance ticket, which must be shown to the staff controlling admission., which must be shown to the access control staff.
    • Admission to the Centre’s exhibition halls is valid for the entire day of its acquisition and, where applicable, other days determined by the Center.
    • Running and shouting in the rooms is forbidden to avoid accidents and not to cause a nuisance to other visitors.
    • Only non-flash photography is permitted in the exhibition areas. The use of tripods or professional equipment must be expressly authorised.
    • To protect and preserve the heritage, it is not permitted to touch the objects on display, except those objects displayed for this purpose, and the indicated safety distance will be maintained.
    • Umbrellas, except those that can be folded away and put in a handbag, balls and torches over 40×40 cm.
    • Access to unaccompanied children under 11 will not be permitted. Children between 11 and 14 years old may access with the authorisation of their mother/father or legal guardian accompanied by a photocopy of the identity document.
    • Picking up or handling archaeological materials found on the walls, paving or structures is not permitted.
    • Given the physical features of the area, access for people with reduced mobility or who use wheelchairs or other technical aids is limited to specific areas.
    • Access is not allowed with baby pushchairs.
    • For your personal safety, you are advised to wear flat, closed toe shoes and not to wear high-heeled or open toe shoes when visiting the archaeological.
    • Access to unaccompanied children under 11 will not be permitted. Children between 11 and 14 years old may access with the authorisation of their mother/father or legal guardian accompanied by a photocopy of the identity document.
    • Visitors may not leave the route marked out or tamper with the signs that indicate the moving line.
    • Visitors may not sit, stand or lean on the walls.
    • Visitors may not move or tamper with museum equipment: screens, tripods, lights, display cabinets, panels, etc.
    • The Centre has free lockers to store personal objects such as warm clothing, bags and other objects that, due to their size or for safety reasons, cannot be taken into the rooms.
    • All objects stored in the lockers must be removed before the Centre closes.
    • The Centre is not responsible for the objects stored in the lockers.
    • Objects that are not removed from the lockers when the Centre closes will be considered lost property.
    • People accompanying groups will be responsible for everyone in the group.
    • All groups must access the Centre by booking which, if it has not been previously formalised, will be done upon arrival at the Centre.
    • In the event of a visit subject to a specific time, the group must respect said time. A delay in the arrival of the group may affect and modify the activity being carried out, if the personnel commissioned with the management of the activity deems it necessary. Similarly, the group must arrive with sufficient time to complete procedures prior to the visit.
    • The number of people comprising the group will be at least 10 people, including the group leader.
