Basic regulations

To ensure the cultural centre’s smooth running as well as positive communal life, respect and civic behaviour among its visitors, and to protect the heritage value found inside the complex, the El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria’s department has established a series of basic regulations in accordance with the current general legislation and Barcelona City Council’s regulations, which members of the public have to bear in mind during their visits to El Born CCM.

Visitors are not allowed to enter the El Born CCM:

  • With food and/or drink.
  • With animals, except for guide and assistance dogs
  • Any wheeled mobility system, such as bicycles, skateboards, skates or indeed any other form of electric-powered transport, except where necessary for people with reduced mobility.
  • Without shoes, clothes or shirt; with their face covered or wearing make-up that makes their identification difficult; in disguise or wearing blankets.

Inside the complex:

  • Visitors may not smoke in the complex, in the central area functioning as an open street, in the exhibitions hall or at the archaeological site.
  • Visitors may not run or push or block the way of other visitors, block entrances and exits, sit on steps, crowd together or speak loudly.
  • Visitors may not throw things onto the ground, especially from the balcony over the archaeological site. Such acts, as well as any other that damages the Centre or the items it contains will lead to immediate expulsion from the complex.

In the exhibitions halls and at the archaeological site:

  • Visitors may not enter with items that may jeopardise works on display (fire arms, knives, tripods or any container holding liquid).
  • Visitors may not enter with suitcases or bags larger than 30 cm x 30 cm, or carrying rucksacks or umbrellas. The Centre has areas where these items can be left. However, the Centre shall not be responsible for any items left there.
  • Visitors may not speak on their mobile phones or touch any items on display.
  • Visitors may not take photos or film inside exhibitions halls without prior authorisation. Visitors may only take photos at the archaeological site, provided they do so without using a tripod. Anyone responsible for the unauthorised publication of graphic, audiovisual or computer material will be prosecuted.

Exclusively at the archaeological site:

  • Minors between the ages of 14 and 16 are not allowed to enter the archaeological site unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Given the physical features of the area, access for people with reduced mobility or who use wheelchairs or other technical aids is limited to specific areas.
  • For their own safety, visitors are advised to visit the archaeological site wearing flat, closed shoes and not high-heeled or open shoes.

During the visit to the archaeological site:

  • Visitors may not leave the route marked out for them or tamper with the signs that indicate the area for moving along.
  • Visitors may not sit on, walk over or lean on the walls.
  • Visitors may not move or tamper with museum-collection devices: screens, tripods, lights, display cabinets, panels, etc.

Regulations for guides not affiliated with El Born CCM

Guided tours not affiliated with El Born CCM’s educational services may only be carried out by accredited Turisme de Catalunya guides. Such visits may only be made during the opening hours established to this end and under the conditions specified in these regulations.

Opening times

Winter opening times (1 October to 31 March)

Tuesdays to Fridays:

2 pm to 7 pm.*

Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays:

10 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 5 pm.*

*Opening times indicate the times when groups may stay inside the centre. Access for groups will end 20 minutes before these time slots finish.

The number of groups that can visit El Born CCM at the same time will be regulated bearing in mind the complex’s capacity and number of visitors there are in the centre at any time. Groups may consist of a maximum of 25 people and visits may last a maximum of 45 minutes.

Guides may only deliver their talks from the three areas arranged for this purpose: the C/ Comercial hall and inner walls of the building corresponding to C/ Ribera and C/ Fusina.

Groups may not under any circumstances disturb the visits of other users: they must not speak loudly or raise the volume of their voices in any way. Laser pointers may not be used in any area in the complex.

Given the capacity of the complex, and to ensure all visitors can move about freely, no guided tours are allowed inside the exhibition halls.

El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria reserves the right to ban access and expel anyone from the complex who fails to follow the regulations.

For capacity and safety reasons, the Management likewise reserves the right to amend these regulations without advance notice, where necessary.
