How do museums think about the future?

Museums and heritage sites want to tackle the climate emergency we are currently facing, which threatens the future of humanity. That is why El Born CCM has promoted the Earth Memories series, which aims to discuss the current situation at a time of great uncertainty. Museums also have much to say on the subject, and this has become evident through the Panel on Climate Change led by the ICUB.

We are holding a panel discussion to open the Earth Memories Series, and it will be an opportunity to find out how museums are dealing with bringing the past back to life in a threatened future. What actions are being carried out to demonstrate that life is possible?

Projects include the reconstruction of a medieval vegetable patch at the Museu Monestir de Pedralbes by replanting plants and vegetables that were once traded and cultivated in the Americas; genome sequencing of an extinct species of parrot, and research on the memory of Barcelona’s landscape, carried out by the PaleoBàrcino Project, which also works with samples taken from the Born archaeological site.

Taking part in this panel are Anna Castellano, director of the Museu Monestir de Pedralbes, Carles Lalueza, director of the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona, and Santi Riera, professor at the UB and researcher on the PaleoBàrcino project. The discussion will be moderated by Jaume Muñoz, director of Memory, History and Heritage at the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB).
